Solar Farm

Let’s give more energy to our energy

The largest solar power plant at a European airport

Located along the eastern side of Runway 3 at Fiumicino Airport and spanning nearly 2.5 km, this infrastructure was built by Enel in collaboration with Circet.

The Leonardo da Vinci Airport’s Solar Farm is the largest self-consumption solar power plant in an airport in Europe, and the second-largest globally within an airport boundary.

The Solar Farm consists of approximately 55,000 monocrystalline silicon panels, boasting a capacity of 22 MWp. It will enable the airport to generate more than 30 GWh of electricity per year.
This is a significant first step toward the airport achieving an installed capacity of 60 MWp within the next five years, with additional farms planned within the current airport grounds.

Our Goal

The Solar Farm will reduce the airport’s CO2 emissions by over 11,000 tons per year. It is one of our key initiatives in the journey toward energy transition and decarbonization, aiming at achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2030, twenty years ahead of the industry target.
